Set the Stage

CO_LAB has spent 15 years building something rare: a theater community where artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) don't just participate—they lead, devise, and direct.

Our programs are free or low-cost because access is non-negotiable. That's made possible by people who believe what we believe: the stage belongs to every body.

When you give to CO_LAB, you're funding professional artistry. Right now, that means:

  • CO_LAB Tours—our new professional touring initiative. Adult artists with I/DD are consistently excluded from professional theater—and from paid work in it. Students in NYC schools, particularly those with I/DD, rarely encounter disabled adults as professional performers and creative leaders. CO_LAB Tours is built to change that.

  • CO_LAB Connect brings CO_LAB programming directly into schools and community centers across all five boroughs. Demand for our residencies and workshops has never been higher—your gift ensures that more artists with I/DD can access CO_LAB, wherever they are.

  • CO_LAB Core—our free weekly classes, open to all, with no upper age limit. Year after year, our actors deepen their artistry, build community, and foster the creative and social confidence that carries far beyond the rehearsal room.

  • Our Directing Lab, now in its second year, opens a new pathway to creative leadership: CO_LAB actors stepping into the director's chair. Our long-term vision is for CO_LAB productions to be fully realized by CO_LAB artists across every discipline—performed, directed, written, designed, and stage managed by our own community.

This is CO_LAB at its most ambitious. Your gift makes this possible for our artists.
