INTERIM DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS

CO/LAB Theater Group seeks an Interim Director of Development and Communications to take the lead on fundraising and communication efforts. We need someone to step into this senior role as soon as possible. This interim position offers the opportunity for someone to initially join us on a temporary basis with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on mutual agreement.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS EXCITED TO JUMP ON BOARD AND:

DEVELOPMENT

  • Create and execute a strategic and comprehensive fundraising plan for the organization.

  • Seek, create, and cultivate relationships with prospective individuals, institutional, and government donors.

  • Oversee submission of grant reports and applications.

  • Manage the annual individual giving campaign.

  • Oversee strategy and execution of fundraising events.

EVENT MANAGEMENT

  • Coordinate special event logistics including securing a venue, setting ticket prices, and creating materials and collaterals.

  • Divide responsibilities among staff, Board, and Associate Board as needed and liaise with all outside contractors and vendors.

  • Develop long-term plans and schedules for special events.

  • Track income and expenses for special events.

  • Cultivate audiences and manage ticketing for these special events inclusive of community members, donors, and prospective donors.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

  • Maintain a cohesive and clear visual identity and brand for the organization.

  • Create marketing plans inclusive of branding, audience development, and events.

  • Align Board, Associate Board, staff, donors, and all of CO/LAB’s stakeholders on key messaging.

  • Oversee production, revision, and maintenance of print collateral, website, merchandise, programming, and special event materials.

  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns to promote shows, special events, and fundraisers inclusive of e-blasts, social media, direct email marketing, and publicity.

  • Hire graphic designers, videographers, photographers, and other outside contractors as needed.

  • Oversee and manage all of CO/LAB’s social media outlets.

LEADERSHIP

  • Create continuity within the department and the organization.

  • Participate in Directors cohort meetings to plan staff meetings, discuss strategic initiatives, and ensure cohesion between departments.

  • Report to the Board of Directors and Associate Board as necessary.

  • Collaborate on new initiatives and programs.

  • Oversee strategic plan goals that pertain to the marketing & development department.

  • I have relevant education, work, or volunteer experience that would apply to this position. (This may include a combination of the following: fundraising, communication, branding, theater and/or arts and culture, nonprofit experience, and/or working with individuals with developmental disabilities or neurodiversity.)

  • I have experience leading complex and strategic projects. I am comfortable delegating tasks, managing budgets, and prioritizing assignments.

  • I have exceptional communication and relationship-building skills and can adjust my approach and communication method for various audiences.

  • I can communicate with ease about the breadth of an organization, and identify good avenues for partnership, even when they might not seem obvious.

  • I am technologically savvy and feel comfortable jumping into unfamiliar software such as the Google suite, databases and CRMs, social platforms, and content creation applications.

  • I provide thoughtful individual supervision; I give timely feedback, celebrate successes, and encourage colleagues to grow.

  • I am goal-oriented, driven, and can contribute creative ideas.

  • I love to collaborate and welcome ideas from team members.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS JOB:

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, this full-time position offers a salary of $70,000.

  • After a probationary period, the successful candidate will be eligible for comprehensive health benefits, including partial employer contribution.

  • This is an interim position, with the potential for transition to a permanent role based on mutual agreement.

  • The position is based in New York, NY, with flexible scheduling and remote work opportunities.

  • All staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
